Our attorneys

THOMAS L. COSTA
Mr. Costa's areas of practice are primarily corporate law and commercial real estate. He is a former chairman of the Banking, Commercial and Corporate Law Committee of the Suffolk County Bar Association, and is presently a member of the Business Law Committee of the New York State Bar, and Real Estate Committee of the Suffolk County Bar. He has served as a lecturer with the Suffolk Academy of Law on industrial development law, business torts litigation, environmental law, and the purchase and sale of commercial real estate, and as a guest lecturer for the Real Estate Institute at C.W. Post College and the Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsburg Law Center. He also has vast experience in real estate, industrial development and economic development law and practice, and public sector labor negotiations.

Mr. Costa received a full academic scholarship and graduated from Rutgers College (B.A., with distinction, (1973). He received his Juris Doctor degree from Hofstra University School of Law (1976) and in 1994 completed a program of instruction in negotiation from the Harvard Law School.

He is admitted to practice in the State of New York (1977), the United States District Court, Eastern and Southern Districts of New York (1977), the United States Court of Appeals for the Second and Third Circuits, the Supreme Court of the United States (1980), the Supreme Court of the State of Florida (1981), and the United States Court of Military Appeals (1980). Mr. Costa is a member of the Suffolk County and New York State Bar Associations, the American Association of Trial Lawyers, and is a former officer of the Suffolk Academy of Law.

ROBERT L. FOLKS
Robert L. Folks' areas of practice are civil and criminal trials, having served as both a federal prosecutor in the Southern District of New York and assistant district attorney in Suffolk County, New York. He received his Juris Doctor degree from St. John's University in 1972.

Mr. Folks is admitted to practice in the State of New York (1973), the State of Florida (1973), the United States District Court, Southern District of New York (1980), the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit (1980), the Supreme Court of the United States (1980), and the United States Court of Military Appeals (1980).

He is a former officer of the Suffolk Academy of Law, and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Long Island United Way.

SAUL ZABEL

Saul Zabel is an employment and labor relations specialist, and regularly practices before federal and state administrative agencies, the National Labor Relations Board, federal and state courts, and state and federal human rights agencies. He advises and litigates on a variety of employee related laws including the National Labor Relations Act, Wage/Hour Laws, OSHA, COBRA, IRCA, Laws against Discrimination, ERISA, FMLA and ADA. He has negotiated collective bargaining and individual employment agreements throughout his career, advised employers in hundreds of grievance meetings and tried numerous arbitrations.

He is admitted to practice before the New York State Courts, United States District Courts and Courts of Appeal. He is a member of the New York State and Suffolk County Bar Associations.


DOREEN L. COSTA
Doreen L. Costa specializes in trademark and copyright litigation in the courts and the Trademark office, as well as in negotiating licenses and handling contract disputes between companies. She received her Juris Doctor degree from Georgetown University Law School (cum laude, 1980). She graduated from Rider College summa cum laude (B.A., 1976).

Ms. Costa served as an adjunct professor of law at Hofstra University School of Law where she taught trademark law. She has written extensively on trademarks and copyrights for The Suffolk Lawyer, and has lectured on revisions to the trademark statutes, works for hire under the copyright laws and nuts and bolts of trademark and copyright practices for both lawyers and business persons.

Ms. Costa is a member of the Suffolk County Bar Association, where she has served as chairman of the Federal Courts Committee and is currently an officer of the Suffolk County Bar Association Academy of Law; Association of the Bar of the City of New York, where she has been a member of Young Lawyers Committee; and the International Trademark Association, where she has served on the Education Committee, Dictionary Listing Committee, Executive Communications Committee and Membership Committee.

WILLIAM J. BERNSTEIN
William J. Bernstein received his J.D. degree from Boston University and went on to receive his Master of Laws in Taxation from New York University. He is a former Chairman of the IRS District Director's Tax Liaison Committee and the Suffolk County Bar Association Tax Committee. He is a past vice-president of the Suffolk Academy of Law and lectures frequently in the areas of tax and estate planning.

STEPHANIE LAGOUDIS
Stephanie Lagoudis graduated from Baruch College, New York (B.B.A., 2008), major in Real Estate Investments. Stephanie is currently a 3rd year Law Student at Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center with the expected graduation date of December 2011. She has been working as a research and legal assistant for the Law Offices of Thomas L. Costa. LLP for the past two years. She intends to practice in the field of real estate transactions and business law, tax and estate planning. At Touro she is the Treasurer of the newly formed Touro Law Hellenic Society which purpose is to promote the Greek and Cypriot culture in the community. In addition she is a member of the Student Disaster Relief Network (SDRN) which is a national organization dedicated to provide long-term assistance to communities affected by Hurricane Katrina.
